The teaching of "born again" children being adopted into the family of God, our Father, never bore witness with my inner being. It went in one ear, and out the other. Now that I've become an adult, suddenly all this knowledge of who I am comes streaming into my spirit! And I am fully persuaded that every "born again" son, and daughter, will celebrate this truth with me! You can take a birth child, and try to convince him, or her, that their biological parents are not their real parents. You may succeed while they are young, but believe me, the day will come when they become adults, and will truly search until they know who their biological parents really are! Even so we, the "born again" children of promise, are born of incorruptible seed. We know by nature that every child that is produced came from a male seed. Here's just one of the few places where the teaching of adoption contradicts with "born again" children, due to the fact that adopted children are not born of the seed of their Father. They are brought into the family without a seed deposited. We, the "born again" have been produced by the incorruptible seed of our Heavenly Father. Let's look at the definition of the Greek word huiothesia, that which has been translated adoption. Huiothesia literally means the placing of an adult son! Huios = a son. thesia = to place, placing. As the Greek word teknon is used to define birth children, the word huios defines adult children. So what's the meaning of the word huiothesia? It's when a birth child that is produced by the seed of his father has come to adulthood. He now takes on the place, and position, of adulthood, and is considered accountable for his actions. In Jewish law, this is called a bar (son) and a bat (daughter) mitzvah, which is a perfect example. A Jewish son, once he turns 13, is celebrated into adulthood. Another great example is about a man named Moses. He was adopted by Pharaoh's daughter until he came to adulthood. He refused the adoption once he find out who he truly was. His identity was eventually made known to him, and I am persuaded that you, too, will come to know the truth about adoption, and discover your true identity. May your understanding be increased as we go to our next example, which will identify the adopted children, and the children of promise.
Abraham, and his 2 sons
Abraham was a man that had a wife named Sarah. God promised them a son by divine declaration. In the meantime, as they were getting older, Sarah decided to help this promise out a bit. Since she was barren, she talked Abraham into giving his seed to her slave woman, Hagar. This is how Ishmael was born. Remember now, God had promised Abraham a son. Unfortunately, this was not that son. Now you have a slave woman, and a free woman. In Jewish law, in order for a child to be a Jew, the woman had to be a Jew. If the woman was not a Jew, the child was considered non Jewish. The promised son was going to be born of Sarah, the free woman. Let's get an understanding what Sarah was dealing with here. This child, Ishmael, was not her own, yet she had to take him in as her own. Many women who have remarried to men with children could relate somewhat to what Sarah was experiencing. This gives us an example of the adopted son. He was not produced by Sarah, the free woman, but yet he was in the house as hers. This represents the modern day teachings of adoption, as we know adoption. Children brought into the family without being produced by the free woman. Unfortunately, the adopted son was not the heir of the inheritance of promise. Now you have an adopted son who was not an heir, in the position of an heir, who was not declared by divine decree, and this went on until Isaac, the heir of promise showed up, was weaned, and celebrated! This is when the imitation of the adopted son was revealed. The free woman commanded the slave woman, and her son, to be cast out of the house. The adopted son (slave) will not always remain in the house. The son of promise will remain always. Thru this we know that eternal security was not given to the adopted son. He was not predestined by divine declaration, as was the son of promise. Need I to wonder any longer why the ignorance on predestination, and eternal security is rejected? The teaching that "born again" children of promise are adopted by the free woman was allowed until now! Can "born again" children be adopted? Yes! Let us move on to our next example!
The adoption of Moses
Let's take a look at a man by the name of Moses. My prayer for you is that this teaching may help you to understand why you feel the way you do, and why you experienced the things you did. Don't be surprised if you come to a point in your "born again" life, to where you question the message of adoption. Here's something that may have caught your attention. If I'm "born again" of the free woman, then why I'm I being told that I'm adopted by her? Teachings like these will eventually come to light. "When I was a young child, I spoke, I thought, and I understood as a young child: but when I became an adult, my adult perspectives helped me to shed my childish speech, thoughts, and understanding". I don't know how old you are spiritually. However, one thing I do know is this. Every child that continues to live on this planet will eventually become an adult. This is an ordained work that can't be denied. As "born again" children, we too will grow up to be adults. We will come to recognize our rights and privileges that comes with adulthood. Moses was born a Hebrew, a lineage whom God selected to show all of mankind who He was. Why didn't He select the Egyptians? Well, the Potter has the power to do with the clay as He so pleases. Of a truth, we look at a 12 volt battery and we may marvel how mankind discovered on how to create power by connecting (bringing together) a negative source, and a positive source. Even so, what if God selected the Hebrews as His positive post, and the Egyptians as His negative? This would eventually lead to a great manifestation of power that shook Egypt as a nation. Now the president of Egypt had made a law that all Hebrew males were to be killed at birth. The parents of Moses ignored this request, and hid baby Moses in a basket, and put the basket in a river amongst reeds. One day the president's daughter came to bathe in the river where baby Moses was hid. Baby Moses started to cry, and the daughter heard him. She looked upon Moses, and felt compassion for the infant, and would eventually take him in as her own. Here you see an example of a "selected child" adopted by a foreign government. This Moses grew up, and became an adult. Something happened when Moses went from childhood status, into adulthood. This is when Moses received knowledge of his true identity. He was not a biological son of the woman he was calling mom. Come to find out, he was of a "chosen" lineage! After discovering his true identity, he refused, and denied, the adoption of the Egyptian president's daughter. He went on to become a great leader, to lead his people from slavery to a land of promise. How does this relate to us, the "born again" children of promise? Much in every way. After we were "born again", we were nourished, and disciplined, by denominations who heard our cry, and took us in as their own. There will come a day when we also will come to the knowledge of adulthood, our true identity, that we are of a "chosen" lineage. We have been predestined (selected in advance) to become Spiritual babes, into adulthood. We go from "born again" babes, to adult sons, and daughters. This is when the God of all creation becomes our Father!! We will eventually reject the message of being adopted into the family of God. We are birthed by the Spirit of God, brought up by nannies, legal guardians, teachers, and principals, until we come to adulthood. "When my father, and my mother abandon me, then will the God of creation make me His". Psalms 27:10. By Jewish law, a child becomes an adult at the age of 13. This is called a bar mitzvah. This is the year of my bar mitzvah, and the teaching of "born again" children of promise being adopted into the family of God has no room. You too will discover sooner, or later, that the word translated adoption in the new testament means to come to adulthood, the placing of an adult son. And yes, the free woman did have 2 sons in her house. One was adopted by her, the other she gave birth to. The adopted son stayed in the house until the son of promise was weaned(coming of age), and was celebrated. This is when the imitation was revealed. After that, there was no more room in the house for the adopted son and his mom. The teaching of adoption (English translation) has, once again, allowed the children of the slave woman to enter into the house and appear as children of promise, and yes, they truly have been adopted by the free woman. You will eventually discover, if not already, this truth that our Heavenly Father celebrates His children of promise (born again) when we become of age with adult knowledge, by revealing to us our true identity, the security, the power, and privileges of sonship. This celebration was not given to the adopted son. Don't be dismayed by the many who surround you, who are void this revelation knowledge, and will not give you their approval. Please understand that we are of the few. It is our Father in Heaven who approves us with knowledge of sonship!! Note: Daughters are included!! Even though it may appear like we are alone, we're never alone. As the apostle wrote to the Galatians: "Cast out the slave woman, and her son, for he will not be heir with the son of the free woman". The children of the flesh will not partake with the children of promise. Cast out the doctrine of being adopted by the free woman, and make room for the doctrine of election! Dear child, will you celebrate this bread with me? If this truth fits you, then wear it. Shalom!
